How should I approach this situation?
I think I already know but I want to confirm
In my contract I have 40 guaranteed hours but I work about 50 a week, and anything over 40 hours I get overtime. My start/end times for the days I work are listed in my contract as well and equal out to 50 hours of expected work day.
My question is this: say I take a paid sick day, or leave early with pay. Do I count the hours that I would have worked that day into my pay? Or would I just miss out on those hours and not get more than my guaranteed hours. Which kinda feels like not actually getting a paid sick day 🙃. And if so, can I request that I take this day as an unpaid sick day so I can save my paid ones for weeks I’ll need to use more than one?
For weeks where they give me a day off for a holiday, does it work the same? I only get 40 hours and thus it also feels like it’s an unpaid holiday. (They call it a paid holiday)
I’d say no, but also it just feels like it only benefits them
